Two CMO Employees Have Sons Honored by Hoover School System

Two high school students from the Hoover School System were recently honored for their outstanding character, winning the Finley Award.  Coleman McNider, son of Tom McNider-General Manager Mining Engineering, and Scott Russell, son of Jean Russell-Manager Business Planning and Insurance, were nominated by their teachers for the prestigious award.  The winners were selected by a committee from each of the 14 schools making up the Hoover School System.
The award got its name from the late Bob Finley, a longtime head coach at W.A. Berry High School.  He taught his students as much about integrity and character as he did about football.  The ninth annual awards are in his name and continue to encourage the values he embraced and taught.

Coleman McNider
is a senior and honor student at Spain Park High School in Hoover. He will be attending Auburn University next year. Coleman was named student of the year as a junior, and won the Finley award at Hoover High School before the schools split as a freshman. He also won the Finley Award in the fifth grade while attending Gwin Elementary. He plays right field for Spain Park High Baseball team.

Scott Russell
is a freshman at Hoover High School taking several honors courses. Scott is a member of the Hoover Phantoms traveling soccer club team; bassoon player in the symphonic band at HHS; Boy Scouts Senior Patrol Leader for his troop and a Life Scout due to complete his Eagle project soon. Scott is also on the staff of the Council Junior
Leadership Training course and is a member of the Order of the Arrow.
