FIRST PLACE
DEZ POWELL
No. 5 Mine

Dez took this photo of his grandchildren while on vacation in Panama City Beach, Florida. He said it was "kinda" posed while Laney, 5, and Chloe, 3, were playing on the beach.  Dez said he really started taking more photos when he became a grandfather.   Dez is the General Services Coordinator at No. 5 Mine.

SECOND PLACE
JOE STEELE
Black Warrior Methane

Joe was on an elk hunting trip near West Cliff, Colorado when he made this photo.   "It was in the mid-20s," Joe recalls.  "I was sitting on top a ridge when the sun came out and I drifted off to sleep.  When I awoke, there were several blue birds sitting on a fence checking me out.  I was practicing with my Nikon N-75 and shot this photo."  Joe is Contract Supervisor at BWM.
THIRD PLACE
JOHN BARROW
Training Center

John took this sunset photo on the San Juan River in New Mexico while fly fishing with his 27-year old son, Jay, and a friend.  "We were fishing for rainbow trout," says John, "and it was starting to get dark.  I had been shooting photos all day and when I saw this sunset, I had to get a few shots.  John has been taking photos for about 15 years and is an Instructor at the Training Center.
HONORABLE MENTION
JIM STEADMAN
Training Center

The judges couldn't resist giving this photo some type of award.  They both agreed this was one picture that wasn't staged.  "This is my granddaughter, Georgia," says Jim Steadman.  "She got a bib surprise when the water was turned on and I was lucky enough to capture it."  Jim is an Instructor at the Training Center.
This year there were 102 entries in JWR's 16th Annual Employee Photo Contest.  The winner's framed photos are on display at the Training Center.
