Judi Cox Retires
Judi Cox, Manager of Transportation, has set sail on her
retirement.
Judi began work at JWR in 1989 but her coal mining roots go much
deeper. "My father was a coal miner here in Brookwood," says
Judi, a lifelong native of Brookwood. "I worked for Abston
Construction (surface coal mining) before I came to JWR so coal has
been a big part of my entire life."
Judi says the most challenging part of her job is juggling all the
schedules of trains,
barges and ocean-going vessels. "There are so many things that
go wrong in the shipping business," she explains. "The weather
always plays a big part in scheduling. From ships being
delayed in
the Gulf of Mexico, trains derailed or locks on the river being
closed, there is always something keeping coal shipments from
running smoothly. I'm thankful our Prep Plants and Loadouts
have come to understand how complex shipping coal can be."
Judi and her husband, Jim, have two grown sons and six
grandchildren. When asked what she was going to do during her
retirement she quickly answered, "Anything I want!" One thing
you may not know about Judi is her love of fishing. "I really
enjoy worm fishing for bass," Judi says. "I can't wait to
start entering some tournaments. I don't have a boat right now
so if anyone wants to get rid of one..." |
