January 24, 2005 CTE WINNERS - 2 FROM JWR Walter Industries announced the Commitment to Excellence Award winners on January 24, 2005 in Tampa and introduced the new Core Value of Safety. Each winner, representing a cross-section of the Company, received 100 shares of WII stock. High Performance Culture: Phillip Hughes, Jim Walter Resources For the past seven years Phillip Hughes has
driven a program that has upgraded and standardized electronics and
electrical installations at No. 4 Mine. His success in bringing modern
technology to all phases of the mining operation has, and continues to have,
a positive impact on the reliability and performance at No. 4 Mine. In the
past two years, Phillip has broadened his scope to include standardizing
electronic upgrades at No. 5 and No. 7 Mines, as well as No. 4 Mine. This
work has, and will continue to, result in lower overall Division cost and an
increase in overall equipment reliability. Safety: Ken Russell, Jim Walter Resources Under Ken’s safety leadership, No. 4 Mine reduced
lost time accidents by 50%, set the Alabama State Record for the longest run
with no lost time accidents (193 days) and successfully facilitated a
cooperative working agreement with UMWA Safety Committeemen. This culture
change resulted in decreased accidents and citations at No. 4 Mine. Ken uses
creative and innovative awards to create a positive atmosphere where safety
is top priority. |
